Created in 1972 by the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) was developed to minimize or eliminate the possibility of polluting water bodies by stormwater runoff, illegal dumping and illicit discharges (any discharge that is not composed entirely of stormwater).
As a permit condition, the Town is required to submit an annual report outlining the permit elements. All permit elements must be met and submitted in an Annual Report with the FDEP (Florida Department of Environmental Protection).
The NPDES permit program is responsible for significant improvements to our Nation's water quality.
The Town is issued an MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System) by the FDEP every 5 years. The Phase II MS4 Permit was issued to the Town on March 20, 2015.
